Be The Example

During a private session with my 2 year old student Kaylie, she became hyper focused on PC Kat Velasquez teacher of Queens of Brampton Muay Thai. For me this was an inspirational and memorable moment.

Honestly, I feel that we need much better role models in the world, don't get me wrong, there are some good role models out there that actually exhibit proper and acceptable behaviour, but many don't. The ones that don't mainly promote swearing, narcissism and discrimination. Children these days really need strong and positive people as more social issues arise. I'm not entirely sure why people adore Kim Kardashian or Justin Bieber.

What is needed, I feel, are not distant role models, but rather community role models.  The type you actually see, feel, and most importantly know.  Those are the most powerful ones because it is role modelling based on bonds.  I know your name, you know mine.  We know each other stories.

This is the main reason I chose to reside Fluxo within the Trinity Health Collective.  I wanted more for myself, and therefore wanted more for my students.  What I wanted was a new surrounding, the type that elevates your internal behaviours and that is hard to do when you are always surrounded by the same thing, all the time.  I cherish being surrounded by professionals outside of Martial Art.  Doctors, Therapists and Trainers force me to elevate my behaviour by simply being around them and seeing them do it live, day in, and day out.

Imagine now what that must do for our students.  Role modelling is so powerful because it is the constant, consistent displays of behaviour that affects us, not the random disorganized type.

So when I saw this picture, It really struck me.  If I stayed in the same place in life, then this little girl would’ve never have had the opportunity to see another girl doing something powerful on her own accord.
